Please leave me a note and let me know where you were and what you were doing. Let's make our own little log.

Inauguration History
Now more than ever it is apparent that history happens all around us all the time. I will be watching the festivities tomorrow. No matter who you are, all have to agree that this will be one time we will all look back and remember what we were doing. There will never be another time that one can say that they saw the first African American elected president. The fact that he is first generation only adds credence to the fact that America is still a place of opportunities and a place that one can make their dreams come true.

Here in South Africa it's all anybody's talking about. It's going to be interesting to see if Obama can live up to everybody's expectations.

Exciting and historical yes. Whether Obama can break the mold of the typical "say and promise whatever it takes to get elected" politician and prove his metal as a REAL leader and his own man, not a puppetdancing on the strings of the lobbyists who paid to put him office, remains (for me) to be seen. I hope and pray he is the real deal. God knows we need a true leader.
Where will I be? Here in central Michigan, at my computer, writing in my manuscript and blogging, with one window up on the monitor watching the inauguration as well.
I'm watching the festivities from home and taking care of my sick husband.
I was sitting in front of the television, watching this historic event. I was amazed to find out that the mundane things of life--laundry to fold, lunches to fix, etc.--still needed to be done on or about the same time Obama was sworn in.
Baby grandkids don't care. They want their cheerios, or mac & cheese. If I don't fold the laundry, we may be out of towels and/or clothing for the next day.
I was in the conference room watching tv with my fellow attorneys and support staff. I only saw part though I was writing a research memo for my boss.
I was teaching my primary students and it was amazing to see that they too were almost as interested as I was with it all. It was heart warming when the announcer asked all to stand for the swearing in that my students did without even looking at me or thinking about it. Not sure I would have. It was also the case in a sixth grade room I happened to wander through at lunch as they were watching the tape of it. Makes me think that the future has a chance.
I was watching it at a coffee house at the intersection of Lincoln Road and Washington Avenue. Really. Oh, and a block away was Flatbush Avenue.
You can't make this stuff up!
