To Kill A Mockingbird

In the story To Kill A Mockingbird the characters, Scout and Jem, get a pair of rifles which are their dream gifts. Although Atticus won’t teach them how to shoot he tells them that if they must shoot, at birds, they shouldn’t shoot mockingbirds, and here's the part where I might disagree, which don’t do anyone any harm.  Now my story....
Late one mild evening I was working away in the kitchen with the windows open and as you might guess by now I could hear a bird, a very loud bird.  It was no ordinary bird though, he had a number of different songs and sounds he went through.  Now would be the time to ask, "How did you know it was a he?"  That only happened a number of nights later.  Night after night my husband and I heard this bird crooning away, loudly.  That is the key here.  It was one of those tormented nights later that we decided to figure out why the mockingbird sang and sang and sang.  Thanks to the internet we discovered that male mockingbirds sing at night to find a mate.  It took this one a good two weeks to find one.
Now to the reason I started writing this post.  Two nights ago, with the windows open on a mild evening, it began again.  My husband and I discussed which windows to close so that we could actually get some sleep.  Two hours later he stopped.  We figured that some female bird took pity on him so that she could sleep.  And there was quiet in the neighborhood, until last night when the mockingbird began his crooning once more.  I guess that he wasn't such a good catch after all.
