This is a very tightly wound book with plenty of room for suspicion and doubt. The author leaves a nice trail of breadcrumbs to follow, little morsels of information that are slipped in to manipulate you one way or another, and then the reveals still take you by surprise. It's a quick read with a pace that rarely lets up, and contains quite a bit of lovely language amidst the drama. You're never really sure who the real culprit is until the final pages, revealed by one very clever line. Everything here works toward fostering doubt and suspicion in the reader, toward any and all characters, and this is great in that it keeps you guessing and eager to discover the truth. A very pleasurable reading experience.
