The emotion of love is closely related to that of hate. I'm unsure if they are really opposite or just strange and unnatural relatives. The one thing I do know that the only way you can hate something is to care deeply about the subject or one the is related to it. Opinions?

I think sometimes hatred is a result of caring deeply about someone or thing and nor having that reciprocal affection.
I was thought the opposite of love was indifference. I agree that love and hate are just unnatural relatives.
I'm not so sure about this. Hatred may spring from disappointment, perceived threat, fear, differentness, or ignorance. It and love just seem like opposite ends of a spectrum, with indifference at the midpoint. They can both be complex emotions, or at least they can both come out of a wide variety of causes.
