To Phone or Not to Phone

As I sit here on hold, a hold I didn't agree to, I realize how far our society has come to being anonymous.  I am thankful for the speaker option on my phone as I sit here and endlessly wait for a real live human to speak to me.  After fourteen minutes of canned music and advertisements I find that I long for the days of personal contact and the days when hold meant that it would be silent.  Silent is far preferable to the constant chatter that seems to try and entice you into buying more, or worse yet, tries to tell you how good the service is when all you want is to do something that takes only ninety seconds once you make a connection.  As you can now guess I had to interrupt this blog to answer the man who finally came on to speak to me.  I can be happy for one thing, he did not have an accent that was impossible to understand.

Wow, 14 minutes? Depending on what service you were calling (Cable? Airport Customer Service? etc.), that's actually not that long...

The funny thing is it was my cell phone service provider.
